Glanmire Medical Centre History

This family practice has a rich history since its establishment by Dr. Grufferty at 17 Sallybrook, Glanmire, in 1984. It moved to Hazelwood in 1992 to accommodate the growing population of Glanmire, and in 2002, the increasing demand for more doctors and staff led to a relocation to its modern premises in the Crestfield Shopping Centre, which spans 7,000 square feet. The opening was officiated by former Minister for Enterprise and current Taoiseach Micheál Martin.

The facility is specifically designed to enhance Glanmire healthcare technology, benefiting both the dedicated staff and the patients who visit. Phase one of this development, completed in July 2002, features nine consulting rooms on the ground floor. Currently, six family doctors practice at this center, with Dr. Grufferty serving as a Trainer with the Cork GP Vocational Training Programme. This role is essential for educating trainee GPs, ensuring a future workforce to meet the community's healthcare needs. Trainees are assigned to specific trainer practices during their vocational training periods.

Additionally, the practice offers a variety of patient care services, including two practice nurses, dental services, physiotherapy, a psychotherapist, a chiropodist, and HSE services operating at the center.
